tennis tip 1

Today's Tip: Focus on what you can control
Imagine you're playing Roger Federer in a two-out-of-three-point match. Can Roger guarantee winning? No. You may hit a let cord that drops over for a winner or Roger may twist his knee. Even against you, Roger cannot control winning and losing. What he can control is his shot selection, pace between points and the strategy he will use. If he focuses on the things he can control (and he's the master) chances are you're going down in defeat.
My point is you don't control winning and losing. But, if you focus on things you can control you may affect the outcome in a positive way. Be positive about what you can control and don't dwell on the things you can’t control. If you focus on things you cannot control (your opponents lucky shot, the wind, etc., etc.) it creates problems such as fear, anxiety and frustration. On the other hand, when you focus on the things you can control (I will take my time between points, I will attack my opponents second serve, etc., etc.) you are helping your body and mind perform at their peak level. The more you can play in this optimum level, the better your chances of winning.
